Beef Patties with Mushroom Cream Sauce

Ingredients

       
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
       
  • 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
       
  • 2 Tbs. milk
       
  • 1 Tbs. worcestershire sauce
       
  • 1 tsp. salt, divided
       
  • Freshly ground pepper to taste
       
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
       
  • 1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced
       
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
       
  • 5 Tbs butter, divided
       
  • 2 Tbs. flour
       
  • 1/2 cup half and half
       
  • 1/2 cup water
       
  • Dash tabasco sauce
       
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
       
  • 2 Tbs. chopped green onions


Instructions

1. Combine beef, crumbs, milk, worcestershire sauce, 1/2 salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well. Shape into four oval patties. In large, heavy skillet, cook to desired doneness. Remove to serving platter and keep warm.
2. Drain remaining grease from skillet and melt 1/2 butter; add mushrooms and basil and cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add remaining butter. When melted, stir in lfour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add cream, water, tabasco, and 1/2 salt. Cook and stir over med-low heat until thickened, about 2 minutes. Add more water, if needed to make thinner sauce.
3. Spoon over patties, sprinkle with cheese and onions. Serves 4.
